      Public Health Advocacy in Scotland

      The Committee of the Faculty of Public Health in Scotland is running a study day on Public Health Advocacy. The study day is free for members of the Faculty of Public Health. There is a cost of £50 (plus vat and charges) for non-members, which is the equivalent of the cost of associate membership. If you join as an associate, this cost will be waived and you will be able to access the benefits of associate membership. ( . Confirmed speakers include Prof. Kat Smith, Professor of Public Health Policy & Director of Research, University of Edinburgh and Prof. Paul Cairney, Professor of Politics and Public Policy at the University of Stirling.   Aim: to increase the participants’ knowledge, skills and understanding with regard to political advocacy in Scotland, in order to contribute to the advocacy work of the Faculty of Public Health. Learning Objectives: By the end of the day participants should be able to Describe the structure of the Scottish Parliament – what it does, and how it works Explain the evidence base underpinning Public Health Advocacy Apply theories of advocacy in practice Describe the structures of the Scottish Government and have an increased awareness and understanding of health policy, what it is and how it works   Reflect on the experiences of Public Health Advocacy in Practice Compare and contrast theory and practice of public health advocacy Create and explore ways to advocate for FPH priorities in Scotland Please make us aware of any requirements you may have around matters of diet, communication support, faith, access, physical mobility or any other area so we can make appropriate arrangements for you to attend this event.
