This mindfulness training is intended as a universal taught face-to-face programme, applicable to the teachers and staff. It offers mindfulness practices and cognitive behavioural skills in ways that are intended to be used and accessible in everyday work and life situations. It guides participants in how to apply this learning both to manage challenges but also to cultivate joy, compassion, equanimity and wisdom. Mindfulness refers to ‘kind-awareness’. It is about living fully in the present moment. This means paying deliberate attention to what you are doing, as you do it, without judging or trying to change the experience. Mindfulness and compassion increase moment-to-moment awareness so that we can notice and change ingrained automatic reactions. This enables the individual to respond creatively to stress and difficulty with more choice. Mindfulness training offers a different way of living that will support you to work with difficulties and distress but also to savour life, realise your potential and to flourish. The training has an emphasis, supporting participants to be open to joy, to feel connected to others and the world and to live in ways consistent with your values. This eight-week training with two-hour classes and 30-40mins of ‘formal’ home practice per day is intended as a more in-depth programme to cultivate lasting and sustained change. Majority of people completing this programme report lasting physical and psychological benefits including; an increased ability to relax, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, heightened self-confidence, an increased ability to cope more effectively with busyness and balance and resilience in life and work situation Students will be supported throughout the course to incorporate a mindful and compassionate attitude into their daily life. The calming and focusing qualities of mindfulness help reduce stress and enable us to become more patient and present in the learning environment and with the students and staff with whom we work. Calm stability can positively affect cognitive functions like attention and memory and lead eventually toward greater understanding and wisdom.
