The Cameo Edinburgh opened in 1914 and was then known as the King's Cinema.
In 1949, the venue underwent a major refurbishment and subsequently took on The Cameo Edinburgh title. Originally a single-screen theatre, the mid 1980s saw the addition of two more screens, and The Cameo Edinburgh has remained a three-screen venue ever since.
In addition to its film listings, The Cameo schedule features various related events throughout the year, including live broadcasts of theatrical productions such as operas, and Shakespeare's plays.
Showing mainly alternative, art house and foreign language films, the Cameo Edinburgh has played an integral role in the internationally acclaimed Edinburgh Film Festival since 1949.
