      RZSS Specialist Sessions: Conservation Genetics

RZSS Edinburgh Zoo Specialist Sessions Here at RZSS, we have a wealth of knowledge across many subject areas from the most obvious (animal science and captive breeding) to the less obvious (the knowledge behind our business, marketing, HR and IT). Whatever area you are studying at college or university, we hope we have something of interest in our Specialist Sessions.  All lectures include access to the Zoo or Highland Wildlife Park for the whole day, so book now to hear from the professionals, gather great case study evidence to support your studies and also enjoy a fun day out. We look forward to welcoming you soon. Conservation Genetics This Specialist Session with our Conservation team will explain the term 'conservation genetics' and the types of questions it can answer. We will discuss laboratory techniques required to generate suitable genetic data from sample collection to DNA extraction and genotyping methods. We will examine the limitations of genetic analyses in a conservation setting and see examples of where genetic analyses have contributed to conservation decision-making. All interested college and university students are welcome!
