One Night with Venus, A Lifetime with Mercury

One Night with Venus, A Lifetime with Mercury We are delighted to introduce the third talk in our 2019 #SpeakToTheSpecialist series. #SpeakToTheSpecialist. is a series of intimate talks delivered by specialists that work behind the scenes at Surgeons Hall Museums. The Great Pox was rarely talked about in the nineteenth century but its effects were everywhere. Human Remains Conservator Cat Irving will show specimens from Surgeons’ Hall’s collections demonstrating what this dreaded disease does to our bodies, and talk about how treatments would often be worse than the disease itself, and why it wasn’t always a good thing if your husband brought you chocolate... Cat has worked in preserving human and animal tissue for 16 years, and has previously worked on the anatomical and pathological collections of Glasgow University and the Hunterian Museum. The talk will last about 60min and the Museums will be open for viewing until 9pm for ticket holders only.
